The stars put their unique spin on "The Garden of Time" theme — but some of these looks went to the weeds.

The 2024 Met Gala featured no shortage of creative interpretations of this year's nature-inspired dress code. On Monday, some of the biggest names in Hollywood and music flocked to the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art steps to show off designs by fashion's elite and hopefully impress the woman at the helm of the event, Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Guests were instructed to follow the dress code of "The Garden of Time" which according to Vogue, “melancholic florals” or floral-themed pieces along with interpretations of the short story’s characters are encouraged as are looks inspired by the exhibit itself, which is divided into subsections of land, sea and sky. Additionally, designers could draw inspiration from what MET Costume Institute calls "sleeping beauties" and pay homage to historical dresses too fragile to be worn.

Although there were several high-profile celebrity co-chairs for the event, including Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya, our team of editors whittled down the red carpet to our picks for best and worst dressed and put it to a vote for Yahoo Canada readers.

The votes have been tallied and one look reigned victorious, according to you.

The 30-year-old "We Can't Be Friends" singer's angelic Loewe gown was a hit with Yahoo Canada readers, earning 34 per cent of reader votes.

Grande, who was on-hand to serve as performer for the charity gala, told Vogue that the bodice of her custom look was made from real mother of peal — which coincidentally is her birthstone.

The solid bustier of the ethereal dress was offset by layers of silk chiffon in shades that mimic the mineral's natural colours. The effect was soft, whimsical and one of Grande's best red carpet moments in a long time.

Kaling's show-stopping Gaurav Gupta gown was a runner-up for best dressed, earning 21 per cent of Yahoo Canada reader votes.

The glamorous sand-coloured gown featured elaborate pleating that culminated in a dramatic floral-inspired halo and train. According to Kaling, the look was called "The Melting Flower of Time" and was meant to look like a flower that was once in full bloom was melting away.

Kaling told Vogue that she was proud to be wearing the gown and Shark Beauty jewellery, which are both Indian designers.

"It might be a standing dinner," the star joked of the sculptural gown.

Rita Ora's beaded Marni gown was a swing and a miss, according to Yahoo Canada readers, earning 59 per cent of votes for the worst look of the night.

For the star's 10th Met Gala appearance, she opted for a nude illusion bodysuit and strings of beads that according to Ora, "encapsulates in the most delicate and powerful manner a real tapestry of human crafts spanning a period of two millennia from Egypt to Rome."

Ora's look was a confusing choice and seemed as though it was lacking beads to create an actual gown. Although it wasn't for our team or our readers, we can appreciate the craftsmanship for such a bold look!

Doja Cat's take on this year's "The Garden of Time" theme was unexpected — and not what our readers seem to enjoy. The wet T-shirt gown by Vetements earned 21 per cent of reader votes, making it the runner up for worst look of the night.

The singer, who arrived with Vetements designer Demna Gvasalia, told Vogue that the look was made to look like it was sopping wet thanks to water and hair gel.

Although the singer said that the look was "horrible" when she was cold, she did share the idea behind the look with Vogue correspondent Emma Chamberlain.

"Cotton is the most used flower and we thought that would be very poetic without it being on the nose,” she said, "and The T-shirt is a classic piece of clothing and it’s just timeless."
