Michaela Coel Is Dripping in Schiaparelli Gold at the 2023 Met Gala
Michaela Coel has made her shining arrival on the 2023 Met Gala carpet.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star and co-chair for this year's gala walked the carpeted steps in a gilded, semi-sheer gown by Schiaparelli. The long-sleeved, curve-hugging gown included 130,000 crystals embroidered onto a dark brown silhouette, including star-shaped adornments along the chest and abs, as well as chain detailing, pearls, and gold leaves wrapped around the arms.
The star added an array of statement accessories, including an ornate diamond-and-gold necklace which was attached to the gown's turtleneck. She also wore chunky gold pendant earrings and rings, capping off the look with anatomical gold heels with toe-shaped detailing.
She wore her hair in straight-back cornrow braids, and her glam included a sharp wing with sparkly red eyeshadow, paired with a nude lip.
The I May Destroy You creator previously made her Met Gala debut 2021, where she honored American fashion in an electric blue, off-the-shoulder jumpsuit by Balenciaga, which was covered in sequins and included the house's signature pantaboots. She skipped the necklace, letting the plunging wide neckline keep focus, and wore an array of rings including a large circular sapphire ring.
2022 was a busy year for the Emmy winner, who joined the MCU with the role of Dora Milaje warrior Aneka in the Black Panther sequel. In her cover interview with Vogue last November, the actress said that she saw playing a queer character in such a popular franchise as an opportunity to help address antigay policies in Ghana, where her parents were born.
"That sold me on the role, the fact that my character's queer," she told the outlet. "I thought, 'I like that, I want to show that to Ghana.'"
