Since Michaela Coel's breakthrough TV series Chewing Gum debuted in 2015 and her sophomore series I May Destroy You first aired in 2020, the award-winning actor, writer, and director has cemented herself as a trusted and exceptional voice when it comes to authentic representation and female storytelling.
It has been four years since Coel's last project was aired but finally, Coel is making her comeback to the small screen with her upcoming series First Day On Earth, which is in 'another very personal story.'

What will the plot of First Day On Earth be?
First Day On Earth will see Coel play a British novelist named Henri, who feels stuck in career, life and relationships. After being offered the opportunity to relocate to Ghana to work on a film, Henri sees it as a chance to reconnect with her heritage and estranged father who is based there. Soon after arriving, things are not as they appear as Henri is confronted by the disillusionment of the reality around her - from unforseen dangers, to navigating new friendships and forging a new sense of identity.
In a statement for the BBC, Coel said: 'The process of creating First Day On Earth thus far has been a beautifully intimate experience and I am excited to embark on the next phase to eventually offer this as another televisual gift for anyone willing to accompany Henri on what will be a wild odyssey.'
How Many Episodes Of First Day On Earth Will There Be?
Coel has confirmed that the show will be a ten-part series, which will be air on BBC One and also be available to stream on BBC IPlayer.
Who Will Make Up The Cast For First Day On Earth?
While it has been confirmed that Coel will star as the series' main character, Henri, it is not yet known who will join Coel in featuring in the BBC series.
Alongside Coel, Succession's creator Jesse Armstrong will also work on the series, which will be made by BBC, HBO and A24.
When will First Day On Earth air?
At this early stage, the release date of the ten-part series has not yet been announced, but filming is scheduled to begin next year.
