Milkshake bar is planning its first KC location. Here’s the scoop on where it’s headed
The Yard Milkshake Bar is headed to the Power and Light District.
The Gulf Shores, Alabama-based chain has taken over the lease at 1350 Walnut St. and plans an early 2025 opening. The space was formerly home to a Burger King Whopper Bar, which closed over the pandemic.
It’ll be the first Kansas City area location for The Yard, which was featured on a 2019 episode of “Shark Tank.” Husband-and-wife owners Logan and Chelsea Green accepted a $400,000 investment deal from Mark Cuban in exchange for 22% equity in the company.
The Yard has since grown to 31 locations in the U.S. It serves Instagram-ready milkshakes loaded high with toppings: Mint Brownie Mudslide, Cookies ‘N Worms (Oreo crumbles, gummy worms, mini marshmallows and cookie dough ice cream), and the Cookie Monster (blue monster ice cream rimmed with mini chocolate chip cookies, topped with a cookie dough sandwich and blue marshmallow cream drizzles).
The Kansas City location will feature the locally themed Red Kingdom (cookie dough and cookies and cream ice cream topped with whipped cream, red and gold marshmallows, and a brownie football).
“We are so thrilled to welcome The Yard Milkshake Bar to the District,” said John Moncke, president of the Kansas City Power & Light District. “This unique concept will be a great addition to our neighborhood, and adding this specialty dessert location will make the lives of our residents, tenants and visitors a little sweeter.”
