Miranda Kerr’s Wedding Dress Was Inspired by Grace Kelly’s Iconic Gown

The dress Grace Kelly wore for her 1956 wedding to Prince Rainer III of Monaco — a lace, long-sleeve piece made by costume designer Helen Rose — still serves as sartorial inspiration more than half a century later for brides around the world. And Miranda Kerr, who recently tied the knot with Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel, was one of the many women who looked to the actress and royal for her big day.

The Australian model enlisted the help of Dior’s artistic director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, to put a modern twist on the iconic look for her May nuptials.

“I think it’s every girl’s dream to have Dior design her wedding dress,” Kerr told Vogue. “I thought, If [Chiuri’s] up for it, I’m up for it.”

The resulting dress was a modest number with a high neck and was appliquéd with dainty lilies of the valley. Kerr finished off the stunning look with a long, white veil and floral headband.

“She wanted something like a fairy tale, and she gave me this idea, to make a dress that was emotional and simple at the same time,” Chiuri noted.

Of the piece, Kerr said, “A dress that fully covers you creates a sense of purity and mystery. … I’ve had a lot of fun with fashion, and I used to be more wild, free, bohemian. But in this period of my life, my style is more pulled back.”

Her vintage-like gown was matched by her husband’s smart morning suit, which was naturally also by Dior.

According to Vogue, the bride changed into a shorter lacy Dior style for the evening reception.
