Missing Las Vegas dog found in Utah after nine years

Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A dog who went missing in Las Vegas in 2016 was located nearly nine years later when she ended up at a Utah animal shelter.

The St. George Police Department said the canine was reported lost or stolen in 2016, and her whereabouts were unknown until she recently showed up at the St. George Animal Shelter and was scanned for a microchip.

Police discovered the dog had ended up in multiple different homes after going missing.

"Eventually, she made her way to a family in St. George with whom she's been with for the past 8 years. The family had no idea she belonged to someone who missed her," the department said in a Facebook post.

The dog's original owner and current family in St. George were both contacted.

"Her original owner, and current owners who are residents of St. George, were able to come to an understanding that she would remain with her family in St. George," the post said. "Making everyone happy that this cute pup had a loving family to care for her."

Police said the closed case should serve as a reminder to have pets microchipped and to always have found animals scanned at a veterinarian or animal shelter.
