Model Duckie Thot Shares Her Secret to Wearing Makeup 16 Hours a Day Without Ruining Her Skin

Australian model Duckie Thot is one of fashion’s most lovable new personalities. Watching her backstage at any show, it’s obvious that there’s not a stylist, makeup artist, or fellow model she doesn’t know or warmly embrace — and her advocacy for more diversity in the rapidly changing landscape of the beauty industries has made her a standout star. At L’Oréal’s Paris Fashion Week show, she was one of the biggest draws, and when we caught up with her backstage, she was more than willing to share a little of her wisdom on the subject of beauty:

What’s your beauty routine?

Honestly for me skin is life. Looking after it is the most important thing. I always do a mask at nighttime, a sheet mask or an overnight mask twice a week. I’m all about hydration.

What makes you feel most beautiful?

Great skin! We work such long hours, sometimes 12 to 16 hours a day, but for your skin to be able to take all that makeup, hydration is key. I know it sounds a little lame, but it’s my best tip, honestly. Drink lots of water.

Who is the most beautiful person you know?

My dad. If you have a great soul, you are the most beautiful. It’s about what you believe in and what you stand for. My dad’s a vet. He looks after the animals, and he’s a super cool man. He’s always made me feel confident and pushed me to do what I want to do.

What’s the most beautiful place in the world?

I’m so in love with Paris. I come here all the time, and I get to go all over the city. I’m still finding my bearings, but I love it — always being by the water is super nice. It’s all really romantic.

What’s the most beautiful collection you saw this week?

Balmain was pretty good, right? Olivier came through with that one. But it’s too hard to say which is most beautiful. I haven’t had time to look through all of them yet.

What do you do when you don’t feel beautiful?

I do what every other woman does, I have a tub of ice cream, I chill, and I cry it out. I try to get support from my family and friends. I have amazing people who believe in me so much. Beauty is not just physical, but it has to do with who you are as a person, quite honestly.
