We’ve always been told how important it is to take care of our skin, but what about our hair and scalp?

There’s a new trend in town of haircare products—from conditioners and shampoos to leave-in treatments—that feature buzzy ingredients typically used on the face. Components like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide have taken the skincare industry by storm, and can now be found in some of the hair-care world’s best products on the shelf.

Both ingredients occur naturally in the body, or are absorbed through food consumption, and are touted as the go-to substances to help with moisturize, anti-aging and skin redness. They can even help fight off dermatitis, a common condition involving itchy, dry skin that can be found on the scalp.

Tik Tok-famous skincare expert Hyram Yarbro is a huge fan of the brand-new Dove Hair Therapy line of products. The skincare-inspired collection includes products for dry scalp care, breakage and hydration, and include vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and hyaluronic serum.

"I love that their products feature some of my favourite skin-care ingredients, like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, while also focusing on scalp care," Yarbro told Yahoo Lifestyle Canada. "Many hair products feature ingredients that can be sensitizing and irritating to the skin, and I like knowing that the hair care has ingredients I’d be using in my skin care anyway."

"The scalp is often neglected but can play a big role in hair health and preventing dandruff," he continued. "I think we often forget that our entire body is covered in skin, and it’s important to make sure that we’re taking care of entire bodies; not just our face."

Oh - and the idea that the more money you spend, the better the product is? Not true.

"I’ve always held the belief that beauty products should always be accessible at every income level, and when it comes to taking care of the skin, price point does not determine effectiveness," he said. "You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have products that are effective, prevent damage, and are enjoyable to use."
