A woman is looking for support from the Reddit community after her mom rejected a heartfelt birthday gift she made by hand.

In an anonymous post, the woman writes, “I like to sew, so I thought it would be a good idea to make her a quilt. I had the idea to make some of the squares family photos, so I got some family pictures printed out onto fabric, and added them to the quilt.”

The quilt, adorned with images of their family, initially delighted the mother. However, the joy quickly faded when the matriarch noticed the absence of their family dog. The mom expressed disappointment, claiming it was “cruel” to omit her “youngest son” from the family-themed gift.

The exchange caused a rift in the family. While the poster's father supported her, her brother sided with their mom. “My brother seems angry with me, saying that I just can’t leave out family members in a ‘family-themed’ quilt," she writes.

Since receiving the gift, the woman says her mother hasn’t even touched the blanket and reported the present to be "missing."

“I went to try and and grab the quilt from under the bed in order to take some photos of it, but I couldn’t find it,” she writes. “I asked my dad, but he was just as clueless as me. We searched a lot of the house, but couldn’t find it.”

After receiving negative comments from Redditors, the woman clarified more on the story saying “She had the dog for around 6 years now, and has mentioned quite a few times that she values the dog's life over human children's lives.”

She clarifies that she purposely chose to not include the dog; however, it's because her mom already has a plethora of dog photos hanging on a wall at home.

Since she's updated her Reddit post, users have shared mixed opinions on the situation. “Your mother sounds very ungrateful. You made her a quilt with all the human family. In my bubble, a reaction such as your mother's would be seen as extremely rude,” writes one user.

“Your mom is a little overboard with how she treats the dog, but this quilt was for her. If it were a gift for me, I would want them included,” says another.

A third comments, “You put your time and effort into making a thoughtful and meaningful gift for your mom, she should be appreciative no matter what.”
