This Is The Most Expensive Pizza Chain In America Right Now
Whenever you’re hosting a party or feeding a crowd, you can’t go wrong with ordering pizza. It’s easy to share, infinitely customizable, and can please even the pickiest guests. And, since you’re packing everything you need onto a single slice, you’re also saving money compared to other takeout meals.
But that doesn’t mean you’re always making the most cost-effective order. Depending on where you buy your pizza, the cost of a pie can vary wildly. There are several factors that contribute to the cost of your pizza, from ingredient quality to toppings to location. But if you want to find the best price for your pizza, read on.
To keep things streamlined, we identified the cost of a standard large cheese pizza at 9 chains in Metro Atlanta, GA. We’re also not including destinations that require a membership to purchase (apologies to all the Costco lovers). And lastly, we’re only including the subtotals of each pizza—so factor in tax and tip accordingly.
Here are those top nine, from least to most pricey. Are you surprised by number one?
#9. Little Caesars
Little Caesars has long had a reputation for having some of the most affordable pizza in the country, and they’re not beating the allegations. Their Hot-N-Ready pizza isn’t $5 anymore, but you can still get a large cheese pizza for less than $7.
#8. Sam’s Club
While many (but not all) Costco food courts are located within member-restricted areas, the Sam’s Club cafe is open to the public. You can score a cheese pizza for just $8.98. And bonus: the pizza at Sam’s Club is 16”, making it the largest pizza on this list and giving you some of the best bang for your buck.
#7. Hungry Howie’s
Hungry Howie’s has over 500 locations across 21 states. In Georgia, a 14” cheese pizza goes for $12.99. But for no extra cost, you can customize your pie with one of their many crust flavorings—like Cajun, ranch, and chili cheese.
#6. Marco’s Pizza
Ohio-based chain Marco’s Pizza boasts over 1,100 locations in the United States. Their sauce recipe hasn’t changed since their founder first developed it in the 1970s and each pie is topped with their signature (and secret) three-cheese blend. You can grab a large cheese pizza at Marco’s Pizza for $12.99.
#5. Pizza Hut
You can’t outpizza the Hut, but you can probably find a cheaper option. In Atlanta, a 14” cheese pizza costs $14.29, coming in at nearly twice the price as a pie from Little Caesars.
#4. Domino’s
Domino’s is one of the biggest pizza chains in the world, operating around 15,000 locations in over 83 countries. Prices can vary significantly depending on where you order. But in Atlanta, a large pizza will cost you $14.99—no small price for a pie.
#3. Papa John’s
Papa John’s has been a household name for decades—for better or for worse. It may be known for scandals, like its founder's public fall from grace, but it’s certainly not known for its affordability. A single large cheese pizza costs $15.29.
#2. Jet’s
Michigan-based chain Jet’s Pizza is best known for their square deep-dish Detroit-style pizza. But they do offer several other varieties, like New York Style and their Hand-Tossed Round. The latter, which most closely resembles a classic takeout pie, costs $15.49.
The #1 Most Expensive: Papa Murphy's
Papa Murphy’s occupies a specific niche in the pizza industry. Papa Murphy’s pies are Take ’N Bake, meaning you customize it in store to bake it at home—talk about fresh! But their high quality ingredients will cost you. A 14” cheese pizza is a whopping $17.99 (and you have to cook it yourself). But for the same price, you can add up to 5 toppings. The chain’s broad popularity suggests that it’s worth the premium.
