The Most Massive 2024 Oscar Snubs Everyone Is Spiraling Over
The Academy just announced 2024's list of Oscar nominees, and there are definitely some things to celebrate! Case in point? Ryan Gosling getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination for playing Ken in Barbie (everyone—except for Oliver Stone, apparently—loves to see it).
However, some major snubs have the internet full-on spiraling. Like, ya know, the fact that Ryan was nominated for playing Ken (which, again, is great and good for him!), but Margot Robbie wasn't nominated for playing Barbie—a move that seems to fly in the face of the entire concept of the movie. Oh, and on top of that, Dua Lipa didn't get nominated for Barbie's "Dance the Night" despite "I'm Just Ken" and "What Was I Made For?" making the cut.
margot robbie robbed two years in a row, all of us strangers and andrew scott snubbed, no acting noms for may december, nothing for saltburn... pic.twitter.com/U5MmxKLgmK

We'll circle back to Barbie in a moment, but another snub that stings? Charles Melton not getting nominated for May December despite *a ton* of buzz around his role:
i’m so sorry May December, you were robbed. at least we will always have this pic.twitter.com/C6vDJh3sY2

Meanwhile, Greta Lee was snubbed in the Best Actress category for Past Lives, which is infuriating.
The snubs for Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and Charles Melton really sting after a banner year for Asian actors at the Oscars just one year ago pic.twitter.com/xebQWtZLLD

AND The Color Purple didn't get a Best Picture nomination, which truly...WHAT!!!!! (Danielle Brooks did get nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role though, so at least there's that good news.)
I just realized The Color Purple didn't get nominated for best picture. pic.twitter.com/FTyqqJ3w4Z

The Academy really hates The Color Purple. One nomination. ONLY One nomination. It's embarassing. It deserves so much more. #Oscars2024 pic.twitter.com/L18Xi44etY

And on top of all of this ^^^ Greta Gerwig wasn't nominated for Best Director, despite Barbie breaking box office records and inarguably changing the pop cultural landscape.

Greta Gerwig was snubbed for Best Director. Absurd.
"Barbie" is not only one of the best-reviewed films of the year but also the highest-grossing.
Just completely absurd.#Oscars2024— Charlotte Clymer 🇺🇦 (@cmclymer) January 23, 2024
I guess "Barbie" must have directed itself, huh?#Oscars2024
