What are the most popular baby names in Canada? Here's a list of the top 20 of 2022
The top three names for girls have consistently ranked the same since 2020.
Canada's official Baby Names Observatory has released its annual list of the past year's 20 most popular baby names.
One girl name has strongly held the top spot for seven years now, and several others have remained popular for both genders.

What are the most popular girl names in Canada?
According to the Statistics Canada report, Olivia continues to be the most popular name for baby girls in Canada. It's been in the top spot since 2016 when it took over from Emma – now the second most popular names.
"Emma and Olivia have been vying for the number one spot since 2003," StatsCan wrote.
In fact, the top three names for girls have consistently ranked the same since 2020.

The girl name that saw the biggest jump was Wren, which ranked in 83rd place, compared to 114th in 2021. Last year, it broke into the Top 100 rank for the first time on record.
The name Lily jumped four spots in 2022, joining the Top 10 ranks.
What are the most popular boy names in Canada?
The Statistics Canada report says Noah continues to be the most popular baby name for boys. It's been in the top spot since 2021, and previously has been swapping in second and third place since 2015.
Noah has also been in the top 10 ranks for 18 years, the report showed.
The second most popular baby name for boys is Liam, which dropped down from No. 1 — a spot it held from 2012 to 2020.

Several boys' names joined the Top 100 list for the first time on record. The name Leon saw the biggest jump, going from 118th to 86th last year. Others include Luka, Jules, Milo and Weston.
There has been a 31 per cent increase in the number of baby names in Canada in the last 30 years, with 44,545 being registered in 2022.
Unique or rare names — meaning five or less registered babies with that name — accounted for 86 per cent of all baby names in 2022.
