These are the most popular Christmas crafts for 2024
With just over a week to go until Christmas, there's no better time to get crafting. One of our favourite festive activities, it's the perfect way to while away an afternoon – particularly if it's cold and miserable outside.
Whether you're looking to put a personal spin on your gifting this year by making your own presents, or maybe you want to start a new tradition by DIY-ing everything from your decorations to Christmas cards, Hobbycraft has revealed the top craft trends set to be popular this Christmas.
So, get the whole family involved or spend a blissful morning to yourself with some of these top trending Christmas crafts for 2024 – and how you can use them to get creative this festive season.
Seasonal ceramics
"One of the standout themes this year is the rising popularity of ceramics. Whether left plain for a minimalist aesthetic or personalised with names for a heartfelt touch, ceramics are becoming a must-have for creating stunning holiday tablescapes," says Hobbycraft’s Trading Director, Heather Robbins.
With paint, special ceramic markers, stamps, decals and decoupage all allowing you to personalise a store-bought ceramic, you can really put your own spin on them.
Crafted Christmas trees
While we love the look and smell of a real Christmas tree, it's not always the most practical, especially if you're short on space. Thankfully, crafted Christmas trees offer a small-scale solution and one that fuels festive creativity.
Ready-made paper trees, in particular, have become a popular choice in recent years, thanks to their simplicity, affordability, and eco-friendliness, however it seems creative enthusiasts are now turning to mache cones, as they offer the perfect base for crafting on top of.
Whether you choose to adorn them with pom-poms, wooden sticks, fabrics, twine or other embellishments, it's a great way to personalise a festive tree on a smaller scale. What's more, it's the kind of decoration that will be brought out again year after year to remind you of the special time.
Craft gifts
As well as people making their own Christmas decorations, Hobbycraft has also seen a big rise in craft kits, with many looking to make their own gifts for loved ones this year. And there are so many great ones to choose from, depending on who you're making them for.
From candle making to knitting, jewellery making and needle felting, it allows crafters to showcase their skills while tailoring their gift perfectly to the lucky recipient.

Green and red velvet
There's just something so luxurious about velvet, and green and red hues help to achieve that distinctly festive setup.
A wonderful way to get crafty with velvet leans into one of the biggest decor – and fashion trends – of the year; bows. All you need is some velvet ribbon and a little bit of patience and you'll have one of the most sophisticated Christmas trees in no time.
You can also pick up some velvet fabric to create your very own velvet stockings, with them being equally ideal for crafting some velvet baubles, gift bags and little gifts.
Woodland wonderland
The 'Mystical Enchantment' Christmas trend has some serious charm, blending magical elements with festive cheer. Think gonks – the little Nordic gnomes – as well as toadstools, mushrooms and fairy-like details.
With many of these looking rustic, even when bought from high street stores (compared to smaller businesses), why not give it a go yourself.
