Mother's Day is quickly approaching, and if you have a mom like mine who swears that she "just doesn't want anything this year," it can be frustrating to find something thoughtful that she'll actually like — and use.
I've definitely had a few misses over the years, but I've come to realize that moms don't necessarily want something that's flashy. In the case of my mom, she wants something useful, practical, or something that'll keep her entertained.

Aveeno Repairing CICA Hand Mask with Prebiotic Oat and Shea Butter
With handwashing and sanitizing at an all-time high, my mom had been complaining that her hands were super dry, even after moisturizing. I know my face and hair always feel better after using a mask, so I popped this add-on item to my Amazon cart for last Mother's Day as a little extra present. She's obsessed with them. She makes my dad use them. She puts them in care packages that she sends to her friends and family. They're in pretty much every other Amazon purchase she makes now. Buy one for your mom - she's sure to love it.

Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Coffee Maker
If you have a coffee-loving mom, I highly recommend this two-in-one coffee maker. One side brews a typical pot of percolated coffee while the other side brews a single serving. The single-serving side comes with a permanent filter, so you don't have to worry about buying single-use pods. It's programmable, so she can have a cup or a pot ready to go as soon as she enters the kitchen. My mom likes to brew a single cup for her afternoon fix, but on the weekend, she'll make a full pot. Unlike other coffee machines we've had, this one is relatively quiet and it's super easy to clean. She's not the only one that loves it — it has over 9,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, too!

Kernels Ketchup Popcorn Seasoning
Since we can no longer go to the movie theatre, my mom has been missing out on her favourite treat at the cinema - buttery and delicious popcorn with ketchup seasoning. I truly had no idea that it was very easy to recreate this snack at home with the help of some ketchup powder. The flavour is pretty intense (in a good way!) and it's even better if you drizzle the popcorn with olive oil or melted butter, so the seasoning really sticks to the kernels. Grab a blanket, queue up her favourite movies on Disney+, and snuggle up with your mom while enjoying a delicious snack.

Brain Games #1: Lower Your Brain Age in Minutes a Day
With very little to do and only so much TV you can watch, my mom's been feeling a little stir crazy (as we all have!). I got her this little activity book for her birthday, and she's been surprisingly into it. It has a selection of word games, like crosswords and word searches, as well as number and logic problems, like sudoku and memory games. It's just a little way to help pass the time.

SodaStream Jet Sparkling Water Maker
My mom loves carbonated water. We gifted her this SodaStream so she could make her own bubbly instead of buying a case of Perrier every week — and she is obsessed. It came with a can of CO2, so she was able to start carbonating right away, and she wanted me to tell you that three pumps will give you the perfect amount of fizz. You can buy flavours to add into your soda, but she personally likes to add a squeeze of lemon or lime for a lil' extra jazz. It's also great for happy hour — add a little gin or vodka, and you're good to go.

Schmidt's Aluminum Free Natural Deodorant
I understand that deodorant is a weird thing to gift someone, but hear me out. My mom went through a health scare a few years ago and we all made the decision to try and move towards more natural products and be more conscientious of what we put on our body. I picked this up for her since she loves rose-scented products, and the no-aluminum promise seemed like a winning point. It took her a while to get used to it, but it's now her favourite deodorant and she's completely ditched the brands that have aluminum and other unnatural chemicals.
