When it comes to summer fashion, no wardrobe would be complete without a go-to pair of shorts. For many people, a relaxed denim style gets the most love while others prefer the look of something a little more sporty.

For the past few seasons, bike shorts have reigned supreme and have claimed the top spot in closets everywhere. Since they're basically the summer-ready version of leggings, there are endless ways to rock a pair of bike shorts, no matter your personal style.

We teamed up with MPG Sport in order to put some of their most popular bike shorts to the test, and had four editors style them for a day. Curious to see the results? Scroll through to find out.

Wearing the Climb MPG SCULPT 8
Wearing the Climb MPG SCULPT 8" High Waisted Recycled Biker Shorts fo a day at home.

I wore these Climb MPG SCULPT 8" High Waisted Recycled Biker Shorts for a day at the (home) office on one of the hottest days of the summer. For a sporty yet casual feel I paired them with a cropped, knot-detail tank top and my trusty Birkenstock slides that I wear around the house. I may not have been super active, but the outfit worked well for sitting at my desk and going for an evening walk.

Looks aside, I’m not sure that I would turn to this pair of bike shorts for an entire day of wear in the future. I found their waistband to be a bit snug and left marks behind on my skin, even though they're my usual size small. Instead, I might turn to them again for more high impact activity like a quick spin or HIIT workout, since they were definitely compressive and supportive.

If you do end up opting for this pair of shorts and would prefer a more comfortable feel, definitely size up for a more relaxed fit.

Is she into rock 'n' roll? You'll never know. Wearing my Brisk MPG SCULPT Recycled High Waisted Biker Shorts
Is she into rock 'n' roll? You'll never know. Wearing my Brisk MPG SCULPT Recycled High Waisted Biker Shorts

I wore these Brisk MPG SCULPT Recycled High Waisted Biker Shorts during what can only be described as my personal Summer Olympics: moving apartments. Because no one in their right mind looks glamourous on moving day, I paired the shape-sculpting shorts with an oversized T-shirt from H&M and my Knix seamless bra.

I have to say, after a physically demanding day of moving boxes, climbing stairs, and using muscles I forgot existed, these shorts more than proved their worth. The high-waisted compressive fabric never shifted or rolled down, and the side pockets came in handy for my phone and keys during the many times that my hands were full.

Not being dramatic, but these may be some of the best athletic shorts I have ever worn. Not only will they suck in your gut, but they won't budge after hours of squatting, lifting, and sweating.

An outbreak of stress acne meant you don't get to see my face — but you do get some content for WikiFeet.

Bike shorts have always been one of the most hit or miss pieces of clothing for me to wear. As someone who is typically self conscious of their legs to begin with, a tight short isn't what I would lean towards for summer. I wanted to like these MPG SCULPT Recycled High Waisted Biker Shorts so badly because I wear the brand's leggings 90 per cent of my time working from home - but these just weren't for me.

I ordered a small based on my size in the brand's leggings and found them to be a little too restricting at the knee. This of course, made them dig into my leg for a very unflattering fit that pains me to share with you, dear reader. I would definitely size up if you're like me and are a little thicker in the knee!

That being said, I'm disappointed that they don't fit as well as I would have liked because they are cute -just look at the rest of my team!

Lance Armstrong?! No, that's just me in my MPG Sport Rider MPG SLEEK Recycled Ultra-High Waisted Biker Shorts.
Lance Armstrong?! No, that's just me in my MPG Sport Rider MPG SLEEK Recycled Ultra-High Waisted Biker Shorts.

I'm a big fan of bike shorts as a wear-with-everything style staple (just call me Princess Diana!), but I decided to put my Rider MPG SLEEK Recycled Ultra-High Waisted Biker Short to the test for...wait for it...an actual bike ride.

I paired them with a very oversized T-shirt and my trusty Converse sneakers — and of course, a helmet, because my brain is my most treasured accessory!). I absolutely love these shorts. While you can't tell in the photo (due to the very large shirt), they're super-high waisted and have an ultra-thick tummy panel, which means no riding down when you're on the move. I also found them to be the perfect length (not too short, not too long) and level of compression - they kept things in place without being too tight, another must for any exercise. For reference, I went with my usual size small. Another pro? They have deep side pockets which make it a breeze to carry your phone, credit card or house keys.

Since receiving these I've worn them almost every day at at least some point, from early morning weekend walks to post-work relaxing — and at their current price, they're even more of a bargain. My advice? If you're interested, make sure to snap them up quickly — they're currently marked down and selling out quickly!
