Mulberry teams up with London Fashion Week favourite Rejina Pyo
Mulberry has unveiled its brand new collaboration with the celebrated designer Rejina Pyo.
The limited-edition collection is comprised of bags, accessories, ready-to-wear and jewellery, and is an ongoing effort by the prestigious British brand to collaborate with leading contemporary design talent as part of its Mulberry Editions series.
Pyo, who has dressed celebrities including Meghan Markle, after graduating from Central St Martins in 2011, is one of the leading names in the fashion design world; in 2019, her eponymous brand collected the Fashion Awards for British Emerging Talent in women’s wear.
The pairing with Mulberry is a natural one, Pyo explains in an exclusive chat with Harper’s Bazaar UK about the collection.
“Our shared values made it a great fit, and our mutual desire to create with quality and understated elegance,” she says. “ We both appreciate the art of subtlety and functionality, prioritising timeless design over fleeting trends. When Mulberry approached me, I was struck by their serious dedication to sustainability and meticulous craftsmanship. This level of responsibility and attention to detail really resonated. Marrying Korean and British sensibilities, I felt confident we could produce something special and meaningful.
“I have always thought of Mulberry as having a rich heritage and an exceptional approach to craftsmanship. I admired how their designs are passed down through families, from mothers to daughters or between sisters. Their timeless pieces have always held a special place in people’s lives.”
Adding that she hoped the pieces celebrated “quiet beauty, quality, and functionality”, Pyo continues that she hoped her collection could be treasured “for years to come.”
“I strived to create enduring elegance. Exploring the Mulberry archive was particularly exciting; discovering and reimagining vintage pieces and giving them a fresh, modern twist was a huge source of inspiration,” she says. “Completing the collection with ready-to-wear, I envisioned a woman, understated, confident and playful. A woman who appreciates nuanced colour and considered details.
With the collaboration feeling “freeing”, Pyo says the ease of working with Mulberry saw her marry her own pieces with the iconic brand, while also allowing her to picture the type of consumer who would buy from this collection.
“I was able to look at the true essence of each brand and imagine how they could come together. Mulberry has been so open-minded, giving me free rein to express myself and this allowed me to really think about the women who would be wearing the collection,” she explains.
“[A timeless bag] is made to last. But it’s also a bag you can use again and again, on all sorts of occasions and with all sorts of outfits. It’s something that becomes part of your personal style but doesn’t dominate your style. A bag you want to cherish for a lifetime.”
You can shop the collaboration online and at select Mulberry and Rejina Pyo stores. Prices range from £175 to £1195.
