New murals bring colour to children's ward
New murals featuring the Red Arrows, squirrels and an astronaut dog have been painted on the walls of the children's ward at Jersey General Hospital.
Robin ward is a 13 bedded paediatric unit which cares for babies and children up to the age of 16-years-old.
Alex Watt, a nurse for the women and children's care group, said the mural had already had a positive effect on patients.
"All the new murals have had a huge impact on patients so far and it helps them to calm down, it helps them to feel relaxed," she said.
"It gives them something to look at and observe rather than the plain walls that we had before."
Kristin Morris from Jersey Children's Charity, which commissioned the murals, said she was "really pleased" to see how "colourful and child-friendly" the ward had become.
"When children come into the hospital it's a really overwhelming experience, it can be really scary, and so to come in and see beautiful colourful murals all over the walls, but also they've been designed to be a distraction centre for the nurses who are working with the children," she said.
