It has been a very chill couple of years for celebrity manicures. Everywhere you look, famous fingertips are topped off with the subtlest of nail polishes—glazed creams, sheer champagnes, classic French tips, etc. The boldest moments have typically taken the form of shades of red, which is still more classic than creative. Sure, for a few celebrities like Megan Fox, fun and funky nail designs were never going anywhere, but we weren't about to sound the alarms about a nail art renaissance unless celebrities who've been opting for understated looks started switching it up with more elaborate manicures. And then it happened.
Jennifer Lopez, who has been seen over the last year wearing looks like “naked” nails and shimmery “iced chai” manicure, was spotted in Dubai wearing the most glamorous, ornate nail art we've seen in we can't remember how long.
Lopez was in Dubai for what her Instagram caption calls a “business trip,” and she was certainly dressed for it. The carousel of photos shows the superstar wearing an oversized, double-breasted brown suit, worn with a darker brown shirt, camel-color platforms, a black clutch, and ombré sunglasses. You can tell from the pictures that something special is going on on her nails, but it's not quite clear.
Thankfully, J. Lo's go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik, posted a closeup of the nails before they even made it onto her hands. He used Mia Secret Black Gelux polish on the Aprés Gel-X Tips to create the look of butterfly-wing details on four of the nails and geometric French tips and an ombré effect on the others. He then used a wide variety of Swarovski crystals to accent the wings, trace the French tips, totally cover the nail, and overall produce a truly variegated and stunning manicure.

Tom Bachik/InstagramCould 2025 be the year we see a triumphant return to complex, three-dimensional, intricate, magnificently adorned manicures? Not that we don't love the simple beauty of a sheer, shimmer beige but… yes, please.
