Naomi Osaka is kicking off Wimbledon by being more intentional about her health.

While announcing her partnership with ZICO as a new brand ambassador and investor, the four-time Grand Slam champ opened up to PEOPLE about how her perspective on health has changed since taking time away from the sport after welcoming her first child, daughter Shai, with rapper Cordae in July 2023.

“As an athlete, my health has always been a priority, even more now that I am returning to tennis after having my daughter,” the 26-year-old tells PEOPLE. “I am learning new ways to take care of myself both on and off the court, not only for myself, but for my family.”

“Being intentional is important when it comes to prioritizing your health as a mom and an athlete. Finding balance in all areas of life including training is important,” she continues. “I believe continuing to nurture my body and mind is what will allow me to achieve my goals on and off the tennis court.”

That’s why Osaka — who plays in the first round of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament on July 1 — teamed up with ZICO Coconut Water, calling it a “good fit” because she uses the product even outside of tennis.

“Hydration is crucial to anyone's performance and overall well-being, and ZICO provides a natural and effective way for me to stay hydrated throughout my training and competition schedules,” she says, hoping her partnership creates “consistent and meaningful messages about the importance of hydration.”

As the tournament begins and the Olympic Games are quickly approaching, Osaka says her goals are to “continue to evolve.” She’s also more mindful of “how crucial it is to take care of myself.”

“For me it is not just about physical fitness or performance metrics; it's about feeling strong, focused, and happy in every part of my life,” the tennis pro says. “Becoming a mother has been a transformative experience that has shifted my perspective on wellness, both personally and professionally. It's taught me the importance of my own self-care in a whole new way.”
