Netflix Announces Global Premiere Date for Live Action ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’

Netflix will soon be releasing its live-action adaptation of the Yu Yu Hakusho manga. Originally created in 1990 by Yoshihiro Togashi, the manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump for over four years.

The story follows adolescent Yusuke Urameshi, who is struck by a car while pushing a young child out of the way. In death, he’s challenged to a series of tests by the son of the Underworld’s ruler and appointed the title of Underworld Detective, tasked with investigating demons in the Human World.

Netflix bills the live-action as a new take on the story full of Yu Yu Hakusho’s fan-favorite characters. The streamer says it took the same production approach it had utilized when adapting the live-action One Piece.

Production for Yu Yu Hakusho took over five years to complete. Sho Tsukikawa is directing the project, with a cast led by Takumi Kitamura, Jun Shison, Kanata Hongo and Shuhei Uesugi.

Yu Yu Hakusho premieres on Netflix worldwide on December 14.

In other entertainment news, Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie have been confirmed to be reuniting for Ocean's Eleven prequel.
