What To Know About 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love'Netflix

While there may have been some, ahem, mishaps with the Love Is Blind reunion on Netflix this weekend, audiences luckily still got to see the first look at the upcoming season of Ultimatum: Queer Love. The popular Netflix dating show is taking a new spin with an all-queer cast in its upcoming season.

ICYDK, The Ultimatum experiment works like this: one member of a relationship is ready for full-on commitment (or, usually, marriage) while the other isn't totally convinced yet. So, an ultimatum is issued and the couples have to enter a "trial marriage" with other members of couples also in ultimatums. Then, the original couples spend time living together. At the end, each person must decide if they want to leave the show single, or stay in their relationship.

Seems like the perfect amount of mess for a reality show, right? Last season of the Ultimatum got pretty intense, and based on what there is to know so far, it seems season 2 will be just as dramatic. Here's everything to know about the upcoming season:

There will be five couples this season.

That means (obviously) 10 contestants total. In the last season of The Ultimatum, six couples entered the experiment. This season will only include five, however all contestants on this season are women or nonbinary. There's no word on the specific identities of the cast yet, but time will tell.

Based on the teaser trailer, the smaller cast definitely doesn't mean any less action. In fact, one contestant seemingly refers to their significant other as "Voldemort" in the first few seconds, and another puts their dog over everything (more specifically says "If you don't like my dog, you can get the f— out"). Plus, tons of tears are shed in a two-minute glimpse of the upcoming season.

Oh, and yes, it seems the steel goblets do make a reappearance in this season.

JoAnna Garcia Swisher will host.

Sorry to those hoping for their Lachey fix, but Sweet Magnolia's JoAnna Garcia Swisher will be leading couples through the ultimatum process this season. The actress is officially taking over from both Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey, who hosted the previous season.

Ultimatum: Queer Love will premiere on May 24.

Sadly, there's still a little over a month before the upcoming season hits Netflix. This season of The Ultimatum reportedly wrapped filming in June 2022, per Variety, so it will be interesting to see how everything played out, and which couples truly make it out together.

There's also no word on where this season will take place, but last season was shot in Austin, Texas—so it might have been filmed there again.

The Ultimatum producer and creator Chris Coelen told Variety last July that the upcoming season is "great," and expressed how the formula for The Ultimatum gives a glimpse into very common issues in relationships.

"What’s fascinating is when you actually look at the reasons that people give for not being ready, there are a multitude of reasons — ‘I come from a family background of bad relationships. I don’t want to repeat my past’ or ‘I’m not ready, I’m too young’ or ‘I need to be financially stable,’" he told Variety. "There may be some validity to some of those reasons, but the real reason is that they’re not sure that they want to marry this person that they’re with. Most of those things that they say are excuses, and it’s very common.”

If you just can't wait to get your Ultimatum fix, you can watch the first season now on Netflix.
