Business tidbits: Daiso store coming, new brewery and restaurant, and summer events

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

Daiso planning Bellingham location

Daiso, a Japanese dollar store, is planning to open a location in Bellingham, although no opening date has been announced.

The Bellingham Herald reached out to the company, which said it cannot confirm a store is opening in the area in an email to The Herald.

However, the company’s website is currently advertising job openings for a Bellingham store at 1145 E. Sunset Drive, next door to Round Table Pizza in the Sunset Square shopping center. Daiso has also been approved for a city building permit to put up a sign at the location.

New brewery to include kid zone

Larrabee Lager Company, a new brewery planned to open in Bellingham on Aug. 4, announced that it will feature a kid zone in its brewery.

The corner of the restaurant for kids will have toys, books and coloring supplies available for children to enjoy with their parents while the parents enjoy the handcrafted beer or pizzas.

Larrabee Lager Company will be located at 4151 Meridian St.

Walmart planning major remodel

Bellingham’s Walmart store is planning a major remodel totaling $1 million, according to a city permit application that was filed by Walmart on June 29. The application has yet to be approved.

New restaurant to open in 2024

Lakeline, a new restaurant set to serve food, coffee and cocktails, is planning to open in early 2024. The restaurant has filed city building permits for its future location at 601 Northshore Drive, Suite 104, in Bellingham, but no opening date or menu has been announced.
