NFL Just Gave a Major Update About the Sunday Night Football Theme Song

Are you ready for some football... and Carrie Underwood?

Carrie announced that for the 11th year in a row, she will star in the open for Sunday Night Football. Starting on September 10, fans can hear Carrie belt out the theme song, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night."

"The wait is almost over! 🎶 Carrie Underwood will star in the open for Sunday Night Football for the 11th consecutive season beginning 9/10 on NBC and Peacock. 🙌🏈," the Sunday Night Football on NBC Instagram wrote.

However, in the press release, it does say there will be "an updated rendition" of the song, featuring "a concert performance interspersed with augmented reality highlights displayed across a halo scoreboard." Fancy!

The open was filmed in Las Vegas during Carrie's REFLECTIONS residency, so clearly, they can pull out all the stops. "Once again, the incredible Sunday Night Football team came up with a fresh, exciting visual concept that really gave us a chance to play,” Carrie said in the press release.

Fans were clearly thrilled with the news, and some even urges the NFL to host Carrie for the Super Bowl Halftime Show this year. "After 11 years, it's her time," one person said. "We want you to headline The Super Bowl Halftime Show," said another. "Please let her do the Super Bowl Halftime show," someone else chimed in.

We of course won't know who will be performing during this year's halftime show, but it would be great for Carrie to eventually a chance!
