Nicola Coughlan Gave A Nod To 'Bridgerton' At The Fashion Awards 2024
Nicola Coughlan is no stranger to donning dramatic ball gowns. Her Bridgerton character Penelope Featherington's outré style memorably evolved in season three, with citrus colour schemes and florals swapped for more sultry tones and contoured silhouettes.
The actor channelled something of that drama on the red carpet of this year's Fashion Awards in London, held on December 2 at the Royal Albert Hall. Coughlan's black and blue ball gown, created by avant-garde couturier Gaurav Gupta, stole the show, its structural, off-the-shoulder centrepiece adorned with tiered powder blue draping. Puffing out dramatically from the hips, the draping was a nod to the panniers (or side hoops) worn as undergarments in the 17th and 18th centuries to expand skirt widths.

All in all, it was a fitting homage to Coughlan's character and Bridgerton's Regency aesthetic, which still left space for the actor's personal style. The regal, almost fairytale, touch was reminiscent of her season three press tour dressing, and something fans will likely see more of what with her upcoming starring role in the new adaptation of Enid Blyton's beloved novel The Faraway Tree.
Commenting on the subject earlier in 2024, Coughlan told W that she her stylist Aimée Croysdill are careful to maintain the balance in her press wardrobe choices. 'We never try to make any literal references to the character,' she said. 'Because, personally, I love that separation between what is me and what is the character.'
The actor's Fashion Awards look brought a level of drama and elegance that was entirely her own.
