Nicole Kidman’s Red Carpet Waves Are So Easy to Re-create With This Heatless Curl Method

What if I told you there was a way to get heatless, overnight curls without purchasing anything, and which will give you a style (seemingly) endorsed by Nicole Kidman? You may even already be familiar with this method. I’m talking about that tried-and-true classic: overnight braids, a basically foolproof way to get the crimped, haute-hippie waves rocked by Kidman at the Spellbound movie premiere on November 11.

Notice how Kidman’s waves start just above her ears, then taper off before the ends of her hair. This look is easily achieved at home by putting damp hair in two braids before going to bed. For a little extra hold and texture, you can add your favorite salt spray or curling cream before braiding. When you wake up, undo the now-dry braids, and reveal your own mermaid-esque waves.

This overnight braid method is not to be confused with the style that’s been popular on TikTok for at least the past four years. That way of heatless overnight braids requires French braiding your hair around a silk scarf, foam roller, or even stockings, which creates a rounder, more blow-out-like style of curl.

Obviously, depending on your hair’s texture and length, we cannot guarantee a Nicole Kidman–level wave. But it’s still a handy technique to keep in your back pocket.
