No Discussion, This Is The Best McDonald's Dessert
I've tasted my way through the entire McDonald's $1 menu, so it only makes sense that I'd find my way to the desserts. All things savory need to be balanced with something sweet, right? In my fast food quest, I ordered nearly every McDonald's dessert, from the ice cream in the Sweets & Treats section to McCafé baked goods. While ice cream will always have my heart, there were some unexpected surprises, proving that Micky D's should never be overlooked.
In my sugary haze, I wrote this rundown of all the McDonald's desserts.
McFlurry
The McFlurry (maybe predictably?) takes the number one spot. It's the McFlurry—how could it not? It's thick and creamy and as the most luxurious thing on the menu it requires its very own weird spoon.
I got the OG with Oreo (my childhood favorite), but there's also M&Ms and seasonal variations like strawberry shortcake. My only issue is that the Oreo isn't well-distributed throughout and there could be more. Everything could use more Oreo. But even given that, it still takes the #1 spot.
Ice Cream
Yes, there are plenty of reasons not to eat soft serve, but for me, it's worth the risk. There's nothing that can be a vanilla ice cream cone (especially at just over $1), and you can also get it in a cup as a sundae with hot fudge or caramel.
Chocolate Chip Cookie
I didn't even know McDonald's had chocolate chip cookies, and let me tell you: they're perfect. I'm saying it—McDonald's has the best chocolate chip cookie. It's sweet and salty; crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. And you can get one for about $1 and a 13-cookie tote for just over $5.
Shakes
If you'd rather drink your ice cream, go for a milkshake, which are available in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. I only tried the strawberry, which tasted a touch artificial (thank you strawberry syrup!), but it did the job.
Frozen Drinks
Why have a regular Fanta or Coke (although there is something magical about a McDonald's fountain soda) when you can have it frozen? There's Fanta Blue Raspberry, Fanta Wild Cherry, and Coca-Cola.
The only negative here is the paper straw, which starts to get soggy after a while.
Cinnamon Roll with Cream Cheese Icing
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the cinnamon roll. It's big, warm, and dripping in cream cheese icing. I was expecting the dough to be dry, but it was actually super tender.
Apple Pie
Pie is notoriously messy, but you can save your shirts with McDonald's Apple Pie, which is much easier to handle than a normal slice. And if you're more of a fan of crust than filling, this treat beats the real thing.
Blueberry Muffin
I didn't hate the blueberry muffin, but 1) you can get a better muffin elsewhere and 2) there are better sweets on the McDonald's menu. There is a nice sugary coating on top, which is a must for any muffin, but the rest was just kind of blah.
Apple Fritter
Let's leave this one to the donut shops. This was dry and just not worth it. I wanted to love McDonald's apple fritter, but I say go for the cookies.
