The festive season is brimming with all things vintage this year, and ceramic Christmas trees are leading the way as a nostalgic favourite. With searches for these vintage ornaments skyrocketing, the once-beloved feature first popularised in the seventies is now making its way into contemporary holiday decor.

According to data from Hillarys, the charming, nostalgic decoration (vibrant green, pine tree-shaped with lights) has become a must-have for Christmas lovers. Ceramic Christmas trees have surged in popularity with 541,900 searches in the last year alone. The resurgence is also mirrored on social media with over 839,000 TikTok posts showcasing a ceramic vintage Christmas tree display.

Victoria Robinson, style expert at Hillarys, explains the appeal of these vintage decorations: 'Nostalgia is making a strong return this Christmas, with many looking to decorate their homes with statement pieces that evoke memories of the past. Ceramic trees have become a highly sought-after item this year as they bring back the fond memories and feelings of a childhood Christmas, due to the popularity of ceramic decorations among our parents and grandparents.

For those wanting to incorporate these vintage wonders into their home (browse Etsy or eBay), you can style ceramic Christmas trees on end tables, windowsills or mantelpieces. Victoria suggests pairing them with other traditional elements such as pine cones, snow-dusted garlands, and even tinsel. 'For a more maximalist approach, consider pairing your ceramics with a patterned tablecloth for a fun tablescape display,' she says.

Not only do ceramic Christmas trees fit perfectly with the growing trend for vintage Christmas decor, but they're compact, nostalgic, and full of retro holiday cheer, adding a touch of festive magic to even the smallest of spaces.

If you'd prefer something more modern than traditional, even a contemporary ceramic Christmas tree (pared-back, sleek silhouettes and neutral hues) might be just what you need to capture the charm of the festive season.
