Now you can enjoy all the benefits of red wine in your coffee

We all know that red wine has some serious health benefits – one of the biggest being the heart-healthy antioxidant resveratrol, which according to the Mayo Clinic helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces “bad” cholesterol and prevents blood clots.

While that’s good for Johnny Depp and the rest of us ‘Winos Forever,’ wouldn’t it be great if we could reap the benefits of red wine without slugging back a few glasses a day?

A University of New Hampshire chemist is trying to do just that by combining the benefits of red wine with coffee.

Organic chemist Glen Miller created CoffVee, a type of coffee made from arabica beans infused with resveratrol during roasting.

According to SeacoastOnline, he “developed the process of combining the roasted coffee beans with the resveratrol in his kitchen. The process, according to Miller, not only infuses the beans during roasting, but also provides the same amount of resveratrol in a cup of coffee as is in a glass of wine.”

An interesting concept, especially considering that while many doctors do tout the benefit of red wine, most are also (understandably) wary when it comes to encouraging anyone to drink more alcohol. Plus, while it’s kind of frowned upon to sip from a bottle of wine in the workplace, it’s totally OK to chug several cups of coffee – and that’s why Miller made it his beverage of choice.

He says that while he knew the benefits of the tasteless antioxidant, he didn’t know what beverage to combine it with – and thought about tea and bottled water before settling on coffee – which also has health benefits.

“Coffee is exactly the kind of drink you’d have in your hand driving to work or driving your kid to soccer,” he tells SeacoastOnline, adding that 83 per cent of adults drink coffee, averaging about three cups per day.

“In the end, coffee was the best choice,” he says.
