A woman is taking to Reddit after discovering that her mother-in-law is planning to tag along for a portion of the international vacation she's taking with her husband — and she even plans to stay in the same hotel room.

In a post on Reddit, the anonymous woman writes that she and her husband were saving up money for a 10-day trip to Japan when his mother offered to pay for their hotel.

Soon after, though, she realized there was a catch: that the mother-in-law would be tagging along for six days of the trip — and staying in the same room.

Even worse, the woman writes, it was her own husband's idea.

"He said he didn’t mean it literally, he just mentioned it in passing like, 'Oh, the flights are cheap and food is good,' [and his] mom said, “That's nice I would like to go,' [to] which he replied, 'Then come.' "

She continues: "I talked with my husband about all this, how I did not feel ok, how now I have to mentally prepared to have an extra person that I NEED to talk to in my vacation, and there is no really winning ... I don't get to relax the last days of my vacation."

The post continues: "now I'm thinking about getting my own room. I don’t mind spending extra money so I can feel comfy during my vacation."

The woman is asking fellow Reddit users if she would be in the wrong for getting her own room, writing, "I don’t want to come out as a brat for not being grateful over her paying for a room for us."

But commenters don't think so.

Wrote one commenter: "What sort of a holiday is it if you're sharing a room with your husband and his mother! Get your own room. At a hotel down the road. And then leave your husband to stay in the room with his mum."

Added another: "It is truly beyond my understanding how the mother thinks this is remotely okay."

Another agreed, but recommended the poster have a serious discussion with her husband, writing, "I don't blame you for wanting your own room and you should tell your husband, but you know this will be a big argument. He needs to manage his mom, this is just the very beginning of her overstepping."
