Olivia Palermo’s new bob signals summer
Hailey Bieber isn’t the only style inspiration to debut a honey-hued bob for spring/summer. Fashion muse and entrepreneur Olivia Palermo has followed suit with a chic new haircut.
The City alum’s hair – as much as her wardrobe – is always a source of sartorial elegance, whether worn in off-the-runway styles (from the wet look to directional up-dos) or down in relaxed undone waves. Her latest look, a long bob, is no exception.
On Instagram she documented the hair transformation, her lengths reaching mid-back disappearing to just below her chin, with the caption “Woke up, called my dear friend @andrecelebhair and this is how it went”. It shows revered hairstylist Andrew J Davis giving her a blunt one-length cut followed by a soft breezy blow-dry with a slow-mo reveal.
Unfussy but feminine, the swishy results fly the flag for a fresh new season style. Of course, the bob is seasonless and has perennial appeal, but there’s something very satisfying about having shorter hair when the weather warms up.
While a decisive look, the bob is "the most versatile haircut", feels leading London hairdresser, Larry King. "It's the only haircut that can work on a four-year-old and a 94-year-old, and look incredible on all ages in between," he recently told Bazaar. They key to flattering results is in the cut's execution.
While Palermo’s is simply styled with a uniform length and straight finish, Bieber’s feels more minimal still, her ‘boyfriend bob’ being purposefully dried without volume or texture. In contrast, though just as of-the-moment, Zendaya recently revealed a full-bodied bob with root lift and movement. Other ways to personalise a bob include switching up the parting – from centre to side or vice versa, or by tucking it behind the ears a la Lily Aldridge, with or without a fringe (or fringe locks).
