Your once-a-year chance to get Jewish deli food like brisket, matzah ball soup has arrived
Wichita’s once-a-year chance to feast on authentic Jewish deli fare happens this weekend.
Sunday is Deli Day at the Wichita Jewish Community Center, 1850 N. Woodlawn, and those who visit will be able to get meals of brisket and challah bread, corned beef sandwichess on rye, matzah ball soup and tomato and cucumber salad.
The event was started years ago by congregation at Congregation Emanu-El, which four years ago moved from its longtime home at 7011 E. Central to the Wichita Jewish Community Center on Woodlawn.
This year’s dinner is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the center. Those who attend will get a choice of beef brisket with challah roll or a corned beef sandwich on rye. Meals also include a potato side dish, a cup of matzah ball soup, tomato cucumber salad and choice of apple strudel or brownie for dessert.
Attendees can either dine in or take their meals to go. Tickets are for sale at WichitaDeliDay.com and are $20 if purchased by today, Friday, Nov. 1. On Saturday or Sunday and at the door, they’ll be $22.
While at Deli Day, people also can visit “Uncle Manny’s,” which is an on-site bakery and market that offers more than a dozen food items to go, including things like rugelach, matzah ball soup, cheese blintzes and apple strudel.
Dozens of members of the congregation work for months to put the dinner together each year. For more information on Deli Day, visit www.WichitaDeliDay.com
