Summer grilling season is almost here, and boy, is Oscar Mayer ready.

On Tuesday, Oscar Mayer introduced its latest innovation — Stuffed Dogs, which comes with different fillings and flavors.

“Our ambition is to spark smiles and be the indisputable leader in taste, which is why we reimagined the iconic Oscar Mayer wiener to meet the evolving preferences of our consumers,” Molly White, the vice president of marketing for Oscar Mayer, shared in a statement. “Whether seeking a spicy twist or pop of creamy cheese, we strive to feed fans’ appetite for category offerings that are currently only available from quick service restaurants.”

The new stuffed hot dogs come in three new flavors: Cheese, Jalapeño Cheddar, and Chili Cheese. According to the brand, it took inspiration from "fans’ favorite restaurant offerings" because "millions of consumers requested extra spice for their food last year alone, inspiring key ingredients for the new recipes including real jalapeño peppers and chilies — quite literally putting the hot in hot dogs," citing the GrubHub 2023 Trend Report.

Oscar Mayer also cited IRI Consumption Data from 2018 to 2022, which showed that "the Cheese Dog category currently outpaces the Hot Dog category in dollar growth," which Oscar Mayer saw this as "a ripe opportunity to expand its hot dog offerings beyond its iconic wieners."

The Stuffed Dogs are already rolling out to grocery stores across the United States in eigh-packs that retail for $4.99. We're sure this new product will only add to the popularity of hot dogs in the United States.

"While it is difficult to offer a single precise answer as to the number of hot dogs sold and consumed each year, one thing is for sure: the market is more than a foot long," the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council shared on its website. However, it added that according to 2023 data, some "896 million pounds of hot dogs were sold at retail stores. That number represents $2.99 billion in retail sales." And though they are popular everywhere, the trade association noted they are particularly popular in two major cities: Los Angeles and New York.

"According to sales data for 2023, New Yorkers spent more money on hot dogs in retail stores ($111.4 million) than any other market in the country. Residents of Los Angeles came in second with $91.8 million spent on hot dogs," it stated. And naturally, summer is the highest consumption season, which makes up for 38% of sales, with a whopping 10% of annual retail hot dog sales occurring in July. So make sure to stock up on these for the 4th, just in case.
