  • A plane passenger revealed on Reddit that a man tried to guilt them into swapping seats during their flight

  • The user boarded a recent flight only to find their assigned window seat occupied, they say

  • The man in the seat then allegedly told its rightful user, 'Fine, if you want to make three men get up so you can sit here'

A passenger is speaking out about an irritating seat swapping situation during their recent flight.

On Monday, March 24, a user wrote on Reddit about a man who tried to take their assigned window seat, then allegedly acted perturbed when asked to vacate it.

“I boarded my 3 hour Delta flight towards the middle of boarding, yet still in flow with my zone,” the original poster (OP) said. “The entire time I’m thinking ‘I pray no one’s in my seat’! I’m seated in [Comfort+] (F) side which is a window seat - my personal preference.”

They added, “I board. Knowing my seat is on my left .. walking down the aisle, I’m only looking to my left. I spot him immediately, and he’s looking right at me… (he’s been expecting me it seems) Sure enough there he is… a 50 ish man in myyyy seat."

The OP reconfirmed their seat assignment on their ticket before approaching the man. "I politely say ‘Sir, I think you’re in my seat’ HE motions to with his hand towards the (A) window seat on the opposite side of the same aisle and says ‘Take that one,’” the Reddit user recalled.

The user looked at the opposite window seat the man indicated to see a "linebacker built male" sitting in the adjacent middle seat "obviously trying to cross his arms so as to not encroach into the empty space of a seat that would now be ‘mine,’” they continued."

Seat F's rightful owner, says they were "not having it" and told the seat stealer "No, I’d like to take my seat if you don’t mind.’”

The poster went on to say the man’s response confirmed to them that “he was calculated in his action.”

“He replied ‘Fine, if you want to make three men get up so you can sit here’! And huffed!" they wrote. "I didn’t say a word, I just stood there until one by one they started to shuffle and get up and move to allow me to sit in MY seat. The absolute nerve and guilt attempt.”

Aside from the alleged seat stealing attempt, the poster wrote, it was the man's language, that really set them off. “The ‘make men move’ comment silently infuriated me,” they added. “I knew immediately why he chose to ignore his seat and take the opposite window seat.”

They continued, “He’d already decided he would make the poor sap to come along later just take the remaining opposite window seat without question! Nope! That’s your seat mister, linebacker and all, so prepare to [get] snugly! Get your stuff! You’re moving to YOUR seat!”

Attempts to thwart seat assignments while flying are all too common for a number of reasons.

PEOPLE previously reported how a plane passenger taught a fellow traveler a lesson after the person tried to guilt them into swapping seats.

The passenger wrote on Reddit that another woman suggested the passenger move so a family could sit next to each other — with a big catch.

To set the scene, the user explained how they were sitting in the aisle seat of one row, while another woman was sitting in the aisle seat directly next to them. When the woman noticed a family having trouble with their seats, she then approached the passenger with a question.

“She turns to me and says the guy next to her (in the middle seat) would very much like to sit next to his family (wife and daughter seated in the middle and window seat next to me). She asks, 'Would you be willing to help them out by swapping seats?'”

"'Sure! Happy to switch with you. So you'll take his seat and I'll take yours,'" the Reddit user told the lady. “Shaking her head violently and frowning, she says, ‘Oh no, I don't want to give up my seat.'"

“I relax in my seat with my smug smile and thinking my job here is done. By saying yes to her, I forced her to be the one to say no,” the user explained.

Redditors were impressed with the tactic: Taking to the comment section, one person wrote, "that was a perfect lesson. Don’t request a change that makes me worse off."

“Sounds like this lady wanted the buzz from doing something 'good' without actually having to do anything herself," a second added.
