Paulina Gretzky has opened up about turning down a lucrative offer to appear in Playboy.
In a new interview with the "Pillows and Beer" podcast, the now 32-year-old revealed that she was offered the chance to model for the infamous magazine in 2013.
Despite being tempted by the idea, it was her now-fiancé, Dustin Johnson, who convinced her to turn down the deal. According to Gretzky, the now 36-year-old pro golfer matched Playboy's offer and paid her not to appear in the magazine.
“Dustin — just remember I love you — Playboy asked me to do, you know, Playboy," she recalled. "And I was like, ‘Yes, this is a great opportunity.'"
Gretzky, who is the daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, explained that although she and Johnson were in the early stages of their relationship, he was adamant that she reject their offer.
"They gave me an amount, a number, and Dustin was like, ‘Absolutely not. I’m going to match it. You’re not doing it,'" she said.
Johnson may not be the most enthusiastic about his fiancé partaking in provocative photoshoots. But apparently, her father doesn't seem to mind as much.
“The haters are like, 'Wayne would be so upset.' I’m like, My dad is not looking at my Instagram right now. My dad is like, ‘I love you.’ He’s just not,” said.
Gretzky and Johnson, who have two children together, have finally set a wedding date after nearly eight years of being engaged.
“I just do things my own way," Gretzky said. "I don’t want to listen to how everyone else views things."
It wasn't until Johnson won the Masters in 2020 that the pair felt as though it was time to officially tie the knot.
“I fell in love with someone so fast and we had the best thing that ever happened to us, happen so quickly," she admitted. "The most important thing was my kids, Dustin and my career. Those things took precedent. Those things had to be established."
Gretzky revealed that the pair are tackling wedding planning as a team, the same way they approach everything in life, including Johnson's career.

“This guy [Dustin] has no downtime. He’ll lock in a date and the stresses of getting everything ready for a wedding would take over mine and his life,” she went on. “I needed to be his teammate and be there for him to support him and love him and make sure he’s accomplishing what he needed to do. That’s what I did. And now I deserve to have a little bit of this time for me."
The couple are in the midst of planning a bash with all of their friends and family - something that was important to Johnson.
“Dustin is the romantic,” she said. “I’m like let’s go to a courthouse and he’s like, ‘no baby I want a party, I want everyone to celebrate us. I’m like ugh, I have to be the centre of attention, okay. It really gave me anxiety a little bit to be that girl. I’m going to have like ten wardrobe changes [at my wedding], though.”
