Paulina Porizkova hits back at body shamer's 'sexist' criticism: 'Misdirected'

Paulina Porizkova is clapping back at body shamers.

On Wednesday, the 57-year-old supermodel took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a negative comment she received on one of her recent selfies, paired with a powerful caption responding to the Instagram user's criticism.

"Don't know why women still think continually removing their clothing is a necessity to make a statement about aging — or anything else," the commenter began. "You don't see men dropping their pants to declare how 'brave' they are about growing older. Once again, a beautiful woman feels compelled to expose herself. When you are a 5'10", 120 lb supermodel, this is really not that groundbreaking. [It] just contributes to the objectification of women, and presents a highly unattainable reality for the vast majority of us."

Porizkova replied by dubbing it "true" but "somewhat misdirected."

"What is true, is that a bikini shot or a nude of me gets far more traffic on social media than any other kind of photo," she penned. "It's also true that men do not post themselves in their undies to declare how brave they are to age."

"Choosing to pose dressed or undressed, for a painting, a sculpture or a photo, is a celebration of the physical self," she continued, adding that boiling down a woman's identity to being a "5'10", 120 lb supermodel" is "objectification" and "describing a woman as livestock."

"It is additionally shaming her for using her body as she sees fit — not a problem ever placed on men," Porizkova pointed out. "So, although true, ultimately, this comment becomes an example of the objectification it rails against."

Porizkova's fans rallied behind her in the comments, praising her for hitting back at the criticism.

"Freedom of self-expression should never be a discussion point," one Instagram user commented, while another added, "Your response is fire. Men do not face the same discriminations that women do as we age, much less the objectification that every woman is uber aware of as soon as we hit puberty."

"Good for you for sticking up for yourself and all women who deal with nonsensical and sexist criticism such as this," another wrote.

"Well said," someone chimed in.

"I thoroughly agree with your response, Paulina," wrote another.

In November, the anti-ageism advocate shared a filter-free photo paired with a message defending selfie-taking.

"Are selfies a show of narcissism, a desire to be validated — or to connect? I believe they may be all of the above," Porizkova penned to her more than 971,000 followers, adding it's in our human nature to be drawn to faces, there is "no need to feel bad" about taking and sharing selfies, "whatever your motivation is."

She concluded by urging her fans to share a "selfie of your beautiful self with no filters," adding the hashtag, "#PaulinasNoFilterChallenge."
