Getting a tattoo is a big decision, often requiring much research into finding the right tattoo artist and many more hours scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration.
Do you go with an elaborate mandala? Or a minimalistic stick and poke line art? After all, tattoos are a work of art you wear on your body, permanently.
So we were surprised to learn that people were getting “ugly ink” from Brazilian tattoo artist Helena Fernandes. Fernandes specializes in what she calls tatuagens peba or “trash tattoos” — cute doodles and cartoons that you’d expect to find in a school kid’s notebook, not a tattoo parlour. But it seems her unconventional designs struck a chord with the inked community, Fernandes’s Instagram fanbase is 16,000-strong and growing!
