People Are Sharing Unique Baby Names That Made Them Say, "Wait, That's Actually A Beautiful Name"
With SO many baby names out there, it probably feels impossible for new parents to pick just one. I recently asked the BuzzFeed Community to share the unique baby names they love most. Here's what they said in case you need a little inspo:
1."My guilty pleasure names are Seraphina and Wolfgang. Seraphina sounds dainty and fantastical, but it means fiery and references those terrifying Seraphim angels from the Bible. Wolfgang, on the other hand, sounds strong. Something about the nickname Wolfie softens it and sounds sweet to me. My husband would never agree to these names for our kids, but I'd love to hear them be used out in the world!"
2."I love old-timey names like Velma, Edward, Frances, Dorothy, and William."
—Kenzie from Alabama
3."I'm not sure if it's unique, but I've never met anyone named Astrid. I love it and have since I read White Oleander many, many years ago."
4."I called my little girl Narissa, it's from Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice."
5."I love the name Nova, but I'm not having any more kids so I'll probably give that name to a cat at some point."
6."I love odd names, like Vale and Bellamy. I love Harbor, Cove, and Cleo as well."
7."We named our daughter Mayalin, pronounced Maya-Lynn. As far as we know, the name is unique."
8."Meteora. It's Greek for 'from the heavens.' I first heard it in Disney XD's Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and loved it."
—Anonymous from Indiana
9."I named my daughter Avyn 10 years ago, and I'm still obsessed with it."
10."Solana means sunshine in Spanish. My husband loves Norse mythology and I wanted a Spanish name, so we mixed them and found Solana."
—Angie from Nebraska
11."Murphy for a girl or boy!"
12."I met someone named Sa'Kai recently, and for some reason, I love it. It's not the normal style of names I like, but it speaks to me for reasons I can't explain."
—Anonymous
13."I met a kid named Lotus. I thought that name was really cute."
14."I have boys so I never got to use any of the names on my girl list. Laurel, Eloise, and Adelaide are my faves."
15."My son is named Vincenzo. We call him Vinny. We're an Italian and Hispanic family. We also love Romeo for a boy and Stella for a girl."
16."For a girl, Maeve or Emmaline. For a boy, Atticus or Killian."
—Anonymous
17."I don't know why, but I've always thought Sesame would be a super cute name. It's got a nice sound to it. I don't plan on having kids, so I won't ever use it, but I'd love to see a bunch of little Sesames running around. As a bonus, which should probably be a requirement and not just a 'nice to have' for all parents, it's gender-neutral."
18."Essence for a girl."
19."Fergus for a boy and Ivy for a girl! They are just flowy sounding and are familiar yet classic."
20."I don't want children, but after watching Living Single I think Khadijah is such a pretty name."
21."I believe there's no such thing as a 'one name fits all' name. However, some favorite girl names are Molly, Lise (pronounced Lis-e), and Margret. I'd call her Maggie for short. For a boy, I like the names Mason, Marshall, Jordan, and Leo. I'm expecting in April of 2025 and these are the names on my list!"
22."Gael, the Spanish pronunciation."
—Anonymous from New Mexico
23."My husband and I named our son Elio, pronounced L-E-O. We are both teachers so it was hard to find a name we didn't hear all the time in our classes."
—Kate from Oregon
24."Androgynous names are often the most gorgeous (and inclusive) ones! Briar, Charlie, Kiran, Cameron, Aspen, and Shiloh are some that I've always loved."
