Pharrell Williams might be a demigod.

Here's some evidence to support that theory.

  • The Virginia-born polymath has umpteen projects on the go at any given time and manages to execute each not only with celestial flair but also with almighty ease.

  • His infectious music has mood-boosting properties, as do his sartorial designs.

  • His skin is unnaturally bright, creaseless and shiny for a 51-year-old.

  • He convinced me and tens of thousands of others go to the cinema to watch a feature-length movie about his life made of Lego.

A recent event has topped all of this. He has made jewels levitate over at Tiffany & Co.

Pharrell is performing such tricks as part of his collaboration with the diamond-centric brand, a partnership which was announced and launched last year.

To pull of such a stunt, he has enlisted the help of Floeting® – a New Zealand company founded by long-time jeweller, Ian Douglas.

(For those who won't entertain mythological notions [boo!], here's the science behind the illusion according to Tiffany & Co.: “The diamond is secured in place by a micro-groove that is laser-cut around the underside of the diamond. Artisans cut additional facets below the stone’s pavilion to maintain brilliance and ensure the metal rim is not visible.”)

Pharrell has called the new setting – employed on necklaces, earrings and more – “The Titan Setting” which comes as no surprise as the creative's entire alliance with the venerated jewellery marque works under that name. The unifying inspiration is the son of two powerful titans. Namely, Poseidon – the Greek God of the seas.

The best explanation of his chosen muse is that he was raised in Virginia Beach in a community called Atlantis.

Either that or he's Percy Jackson's brother.

Titan Setting jewellery from the Pharrell x Tiffany & Co. collab is coming soon to Tiffany.co.uk.
