How this photo taken by Princess Eugenie broke royal protocol

It turns out that rules around taking photos in Buckingham Palace aren’t just for tourists. Princess Eugenie admitted she was recently in hot water with the royal family after sharing a photo of her father, Prince Andrew, at the Trooping the Colour ceremony on Instagram.

Earlier this summer, the youngest daughter of the Prince and Sarah Ferguson shared a photo of her dad posing at Buckingham Palace in his Colonel of the Grenadier Guards uniform. In an interview with British Vogue, the 28-year-old admitted her Father’s Day post warranted a telling off.

I recently got in trouble for posting a picture of Papa in a corridor of the palace that was off-limits to the public,” she said.

The photo, which is still on her Instagram feed, shows her dad in a corridor lined with red carpet, marble busts and a series of paintings.

The feature in Vogue focused on how the millennial princesses “keep it real.” Wearing Valentino, Erdem and Simone Rocha, the sisters spoke with the fashion magazine at their Windsor home, the Royal Lodge.

An eventful shoot, the princesses’ mom, Sarah Ferguson, showed up for an unexpected visit and declared herself the “Pony Club mother” after providing beauty advice to the pair.

Princess Eugenie continues to share her life online — and she has a good reason for being so open.

“We want to show people who we are as working, young, royal women, but also not to be afraid of putting ourselves out there,” she said. “Nowadays it’s so easy to recoil when you see a perfect image on Instagram – but it’s important that it’s real. We’re real.”

The princess will tie the knot with fiancé Jack Brooksbank this October.
