All the Photos of Prince Harry and Prince William at Princess Diana's Statue Unveiling

On July 1, Prince Harry and Prince William reunited for the first time in three months to unveil a statue of their mother, Princess Diana. Though tensions are high between the brothers, after Prince Harry's exit from his royal role and move to California, the two princes are co-hosting a small event today, honoring the late princess. The last time William and Harry were together was in April, for their grandfather, Prince Philip's funeral. This event has been a long time coming for the brothers, who began planning it in 2017, on the 20th anniversary year of Princess Diana’s death. Now, the statue was unveiled on what would have been Diana's 60th birthday.

The event was held in the newly redesigned Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace, one of Princess Diana's favorite spots. In addition to Harry and William, the group in attendance included Diana's siblings: Earl Spencer, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Lady Jane Fellowes, in addition to the Statue Committee and Chair of Historic Royal Palaces, Rupert Gavin. The statue's sculptor, Ian Rank-Broadley and garden designer, Pip Morrison also joined.

During the unveiling, the two brothers spoke about the meaning behind the statue. "Today, on what would have been our Mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character—qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better," they said. "Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy."

The two princes consider the statue both a commemorative piece of art in their mother's honor, and a reminder of her impact on both the UK and beyond. Per William and Harry's 2020 joint statement, "The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy."
