Considering the innovative nature of the watch industry, it's pretty hard to believe that it's still celebrating firsts. Today: the very first ceramic Piaget.

News just in from Watches and Wonder Shanghai confirms that the lightweight, resistant material has finally been welcomed into the historied maison via the Piaget Polo – the watchmaker's collection of sporty, glamorous timepieces that are so slight, they are considered a 'second skin'.

Specifically, through the skeletonized facet of the line.

It's a watch that took three years to develop as the entire construction had to be reconsidered to utilise the material effectively and to achieve a slimness of 7.5mm (that's just 1mm thicker than the OG gold models, and the steel models introduced in 2016).

Quite the achievement for a watch that features an automatic winding system.

Ceramic components are positioned inside a jet black ceramic case which is bolstered by a jet black titanium container which is seamlessly incorporated into the design.

It comes on a black rubber strap with a steel and titanium folding clasp which can be uber-effortlessly swapped out for the blue strap (complimentary!) thanks to Piaget's SingleTouch interchangeable strap system. The dark yet rich shade of blue matches the hits of SuperLuminova-powered blue on the indexes and the hands and harmonises with the pink jewels that dress up the movements.

And as if that wasn't all lush enough, the Polo Skeleton Ceramic marks a second first: the Piaget logo is introduced to the oscillating weight.

That makes (at least) two talking points to share with inquisitive onlookers. Although, we can't guarantee they'll believe you.

The Piaget Polo Skeleton Ceramic is priced at £36,700. For more information, sign up for email notifications over on the brand's website.
