Every year Pinterest comes out with trend predictions for the following year. Along with forecasting "surreal soirees," a "fisherman aesthetic" (sardines, anyone?), and "moto boho" for 2025, Pinterest also has a handful of culinary guesses for what'll pop off in the new year. Most of them don't come as too big a surprise—after all, we've seen these trends continually grow in recent years, and created plenty of recipes inspired by them. But they do bode well for an imaginative 2025, where fun and creativity (over perfection and rules) is the name of the game. We'll cheers to that!

Sippin' On Soda

First on the list is the resurrection of soda floats—or as Pinterest calls them, rebel floats. Surely you're no stranger to the traditional root beer float, but come 2025, the Pinterest trend-casters think things will veer off from tradition and get a little more inventive. To get into the spirit, try your hand at making a Shirley Temple float, for example, or get creative with a butterbeer float. If you're looking to up the ante at your next brunch, trade in the mimosas for mimosa floats. Or, if you're looking to add an adult spin on a soda float, whip up a tasty red wine float. Pinterest saw a 105% jump in searches for "cream soda aesthetic" and a 90% boost in soda drinks recipes searches, so make room in your fridge for the funkiest sodas and get experimenting.

Everything's Coming Up Pickles

From pickle cakes to pickle margaritas, this crunchy veggie seems to be taking over the universe. Even though most people think of the food as a savory side to your favorite sandwich or as an addition to a tasty burger, the humble pickle has gotten a bit of a personality makeover in recent years, rebranding as an all-star ingredient in everything from sweet desserts to zesty drinks. According to Pinterest, searches for items like pickle margaritas were up 100%, while pickle de gallo and fried pickle dip were up 65% and 80%, respectively.

Here at Delish we're right on trend and we've created plenty of innovative recipes with pickles, including popsicles, pickle juice whiskey sours, cupcakes, and even a refreshing sorbet. In the upcoming year, this trend will only continue to grow. Let's speculate on what we'll see next: pickle gummies? Pickle brownies? Pickle-jitos? The possi-dill-ities are endless.

Not-So-Perfect Cakes

It's a rather shocking take coming from Pinterest with its, well, Pinterest-perfect aesthetic, but apparently, 2025 is the year to ditch perfection and embrace a bit of mess—at least when it comes to cakes. No longer are we aiming for that perfect piping and striving for an Insta-worthy outcome. Instead, it's time for cakes that embody your personality with funny, goofy, and crazy designs. For example, searches for "rat cake" are up 170% on Pinterest, and "silly cake" are up 115%. Adopt a new method of baking that sparks joy and make sure your next cake is your whackiest creation yet.
