The desire to create a calm and tranquil living space is the biggest theme to emerge from Pinterest’s Autumn 2024 Trend Report, with searches for serene hues (blues and greens) and Japanese interiors on the rise.

Here's what's trending on Pinterest in the interior world...

Serene hues

Our love affair with green is everlasting. This versatile, nature-inspired shade connects us to the outside world and has the ability to calm and soothe, making it the perfect hue to use in the home. Another nature-inspired colour, blue, is well-loved for its versatility and universal appeal. Light shades are tranquil and serene, while darker hues can add depth to make a space feel cosy and welcoming.

Harmonious Japanese style

While Japandi, an aesthetic that blends two global leaders in minimalism (Japan and Scandinavia), continues to influence interiors, it's in fact Japanese style that has emerged as the frontrunner, according to new search data on the visual discovery platform.

Japanese interiors are inviting and timeless, with designs centred around slow living, comfort and wellbeing. There’s a natural warmth, with a focus on organic, nature-inspired colours and materials. Shapes and lines are clean and minimal, with simple, low furniture that is both functional and calming. Think wood, glass, ceramic, natural stones and soft rich fabrics with neutral colours. Japan’s philosophy of 'wabi sabi' also echoes a deep appreciation for simplicity.
