This Pizza Delivery Order Could Save Your Life
As pizza lovers, we've certainly come across our fair share of tips, tricks, and hacks involving the cheesy favorite, but there's one particular pizza ordering tip that could save your life.
The life-saving tip was shared on Instagram recently in a video uploaded by user @globalinsightz. In the video, a woman can be heard on a phone call with a 9-1-1 operator. But instead of telling the operator the specifics of her predicament, she pretended as if she was ordering a pizza, likely so that she wouldn't be overheard calling the police.
"I'd like to order a pizza for delivery," said the woman when the operator asked her emergency.
"I think you've dialed the wrong number," the operator responded, before catching on.
Given that she was pretending to place a delivery order, the caller was able to quickly provide her address. Once the operator realized it was an emergency, she was able to get additional information from the woman.
"If he's armed with a gun, I want you to ask for extra pepperoni," the operator guided.
In the comments, users applauded both the woman who called 9-1-1 and the operator.
"My gawd. She is brilliant. I hope they get her away from him," read one comment.
"As a domestic violence case manager this is why we have safety plans in place and code words. She did a fantastic job calling 911," another person chimed in.
Although the Instagram video recently went viral, the pizza ordering tip has been around for quite some time. A Reddit thread from five years ago features video of a news segment profiling a 9-1-1 operator who found themselves in this exact predicament. As a result of quick thinking from both parties, the threat was arrested and the caller was safe.
Most recently, a woman in Florida was able to get away from her attacker when she was rescued by police after calling 9-1-1. During her call to 9-1-1, she alerted them to her location by placing a fake order for pizza.
