Popular skate arena that closed years ago ‘will roll on once again’ as new fun center

Macon residents will soon have a new place for fun. The Bibb Skate Arena will soon open under new ownership as Level Up Family Entertainment Center.

The skating rink was a Macon staple for about 60 years before changing hands and eventually closing for good, according to new owner Joel Shiver.

“It closed due to a combination of economic challenges and changing recreational interests at the time,” Shiver said. “It was previously owned by a local family who had operated it for several decades and passed it onto a worker and then later closed.”

A new skate wall is currently being put up at Level Up Family Entertainment Center. Owner Joel Shiver said he hopes to open doors in August.

Shiver said he wanted to bring back a piece of history to the community and create a place where families can come together for a safe, fun, and family-friendly experience. He said revitalizing the popular Bibb Skate Arena site felt like the perfect way to do that.
