New pottery business brings creative flare to Middle Georgia community. See how it works

Julie McGlamery had always dreamed of opening her own business in a town square, and being a part of a small business community.

She just didn’t know what that business would be until she fell in love with pottery. And she knew she wanted to share it with others and provide a creative outlet for people to participate.

In March, McGlamery made her dream come true when she opened Goodjuju Pottery in Forsyth.

“I love that I am able to be a part of a community and offer activities for all ages and skill levels at an affordable price. I’m also passionate about being a potter,” McGlamery said. “From starting with raw clay and being able to form a usable functional piece, to the wonder and creativity of choosing and applying the glazes to create a beautiful piece of art.”

Goodjuju Pottery offers clay hand building, pottery wheels and pre-made ceramics to glaze. McGlamery said customers can drop in to glaze ceramics and schedule time for hand building and throwing on the wheels.

The business has monthly memberships for potters that are looking for a studio space and also offers private group events, parties and team building activities. It offers several classes a month on various projects.

“I feel like my business offers many different activities for all levels of creative abilities,” McGlamery said. “Being in a small town I feel like we offer affordable options for family outings, date nights, special celebrations and team building for other businesses.”

McGlamery said she loves having a space where people feel welcome and can come to escape and relax for a short time. She said the business has had several compliments about the vibe of the store and how cozy and warm the environment is.

“I want everyone to feel like they can come, hang out and express their artistic talents and learn from each other,” she said.

McGlamery, who said she loves animals as much as she loves pottery, started a relationship with a local animal rescue, Save A Pet. She created the event “Painting for a Pet,” which benefits the rescue.

“I first learned about their organization through Forsyth Antiques and More where they have a booth to raise money. I have a booth there also. I messaged them and asked about volunteering and doing a fundraiser at my store for them,” she said. “I went and met with Ms. Pat, Patricia Corley, who is their founder and president and took a tour of their facility. They are a wonderful organization and Ms. Pat and her staff are truly dedicated to the animals and giving them a great life.”

McGlamery said she hopes that her business grows and affords her the opportunity to get more involved and continue to help support and donate to the great work the rescue is doing.

Goodjuju Pottery is at 70 W Main St., Suite B in Forsyth and can be reached at 404-617-3514.

“I love Forsyth and want to offer not only a place to come have fun, but be a partner with the citizens and other businesses to help our community grow and be a place where people want to live, raise their families and bring their businesses,” McGlamery said.
