The Practical Reason Behind Rosamund Pike's Saltburn-Esque Beauty Look At The Golden Globes
Forget sultry smokey eyes and pretty little updos, best supporting actress nominee Rosamund Pike came to knock 'em dead on the Golden Globes 2024 red carpet and she did exactly that with her enigmatic Philip Treacy headpiece and black Christian Dior number from the Couture FW19 collection.
It's a standout look in a sea of frothy and brightly coloured ensembles, and we can't help but think that this is exactly what Saltburn's icy and aristocratic Elspeth Catton (which Pike flawlessly portrayed) would have worn to a red carpet event in sunny Hollywood.
Naturally, it's couture or nothing for the Catton family matriarch. Pike seems to agree, telling Variety: 'You have to channel it, don’t you? Either a weird sort of funeral vibe or maybe she wore black for her wedding.'
Beyond leaning into the Aristocratic Goth vibes, Pike's Philip Treacy headpiece - which accessorised a sculpted updo, styled by Davide Barbieri - also served a more practical function. 'It’s a protective veil for the occasion,' says Pike on the red carpet. 'I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident. And I had to think, that’s not what you want knowing you’re coming to the Golden Globes on the seventh of January.'
The accident apparently left her face 'entirely smashed up', but while she's healed from her the injuries, the veil still seamlessly complemented the rest of the outfit, which was artfully styled by Leith Clark.
To channel Elspeth's 'stealth wealth' approach to beauty, make-up artist Mélanie Inglessis prepped Pike's complexion with Image skincare, which includes a moisturising mask and an invigorating massage using the Vital C Hydrating Repair Cream. On a clean complexion, painterly eyes, flushed cheeks and matching lips make for a contrasting romantic twist to the all-black ensemble.
Using Dior make-up, Inglessis opted for 'peachy palettes to create a soft but luminous eye' with Diorshow 5 Couleurs in Amber Pearl and teamed it with Dior Backstage Rosy Glow. Rouge Dior lipstick in 100, a dusky neutral, to tie the look together.
The details extend all the way down to Pike's pedicure, a deep cherry tone to echo the overall gothic vibes. We'll be channeling this take-no-prisoners energy for 2024, thank you very much.
