A woman says she was surprised to learn that her father and stepmother had used a photo of her ultrasound on their Christmas card, without asking her first.

In a Reddit post, the anonymous woman writes: "Every year my father and stepmother, who I am not close to, send out a Christmas card — a very important tradition for the good, middle class Jesus-loving Texan who needs to show off their travels and their kids accomplishments."

"This year they included a photo of my ultrasound on it (which I had shared privately with my father only) and my due date, along with the same of my step-siblings who are also expecting," she continues. "My sister saw the card and called to ask if I knew about it - I did not. They never asked for my permission or informed me that they were printing my ultrasound on the card."

So, the woman says she called and told her dad that "he should have asked for permission" before sending out "a photo of my body and my unborn child ... to hundreds of people that are strangers to me."

Her father responded that her unborn child is "his grandchild too," telling her that using the photo was "not a big deal" and that "my stepmom is very excited about the baby so I should keep my mouth shut so as not to rain on their parade."

"Now he's not talking to me. I understand that it's a very normal thing in the South to share photos of your ultrasound on social media or wherever, so now I'm worried I overreacted and caused drama over nothing," she writes.

But Reddit users don't think the poster overreacted.

"The 'it's my grandchild' comment got me. It's like yeah that's true but it's OPs child. She and her partner get the final say in regards to their child not the grandparents....or step grandparent," wrote one.

Another commenter wrote that the woman "should take this as a lesson."

"He’s a grandfather, but he’s also a father. And a parent’s duty is to be there for their CHILDREN not the many people he wants to impress," the commenter added. "A pregnancy is a fun time, but also a stressful one. Long story short: in their excitement about grandbabies, they’ve forgotten about THEIR baby."

Wrote another: "The flagrant disregard by OP’s father is infuriating. I’m sure he wouldn’t be so blasé if his colonoscopy results were printed on a Christmas card without his permission."
