In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous, 24-year-old woman writes that the name is "unique but not too out there, has sentimental value for us, and just feels right."
"We’ve been keeping it mostly private, but I did mention it to my close friend, Sarah (24F), the other day," she adds.
But when she told Sarah the name, her friend "flipped out."
"She said she had 'called dibs' on that name years ago for her future kid. Mind you—she’s not pregnant, not trying, and doesn’t even know if she wants kids anytime soon," the poster adds. "She got super upset and said I was being selfish by 'stealing' the name when I knew she had always planned to use it."

The post continues: "I told her I wasn’t changing it. It’s the name my fiancé and I love, and I’m not giving it up over some hypothetical baby she might have one day. She got mad and said I was being inconsiderate and that a 'real friend' wouldn’t do this to her. Now, some of our mutual friends are saying I should just pick something else to avoid the drama."
"But like… this is my actual baby. She’s not even pregnant. Am I really supposed to give up a name just because she might want it in the future?" she adds.
Commenters say absolutely not.

Wrote one: "You can call dibs on the front seat or the last cookie... but I don't think you can call dibs on a name. That is childish."
Still others suggested that, even if the women both have babies with the same name, it wouldn't be a huge deal.
"The friend can still use the name years down the line, surely? There are people who have the same name out there," added another Reddit user.
