From Town & Country

Beloved by preppies everywhere, LL Bean, and more specifically the brand's iconic duck boot, is not something one would expect to be sent down the runway at New York Fashion Week. Though timeless and a staple in every wardrobe, the famous, two-tone, all-weather boots are one of those can't-live-without-it items that has, for better or for worse, managed to evade the high fashion treatment for decades. Until now.

Todd Snyder's Fall 2020 Menswear Collection, which was shown on the runway at New York Fashion Week this Wednesday, featured a special collaboration with the brand, finally putting LL Bean on a runway—specifically the Bean boots and trapper hats, as well as a slim cut suit in the red flannel print known the world over as the brand's signature.

The fall 2020 show was packed with outdoorsy and transcendentalist references about finding oneself in nature—a concept that is undoubtedly integral to the LL Bean ethos—and it turns out this was indeed part of the whole concept of the collection.

After the show, Snyder explained that his early years were spent in Iowa, where he hunted and went camping in LL Bean apparel. In other words, a collaboration that couldn't be more fitting. And with the existential tone of the show, especially with reference to the splendor of the great American outdoors, one thing is clear: the fall 2020 Todd Snyder collection—and collaboration with LL Bean—is clearly all about how mankind is engaging with our environment. Topical to say the least.
